News Nigeria sets up joint technical task team on food security

The Nigeria Police Force says its investigation shows that Boko Haram, Ansaru and other terror groups are getting support from some Nigerians.

The Federal Government, in a bid to ensure food security and wipe out smuggling of food produces out of the country, has now inaugurated Joint Technical Task Team.

The special team is created in response to the directive from the presidency. Passed down to the inspector general of police to effect grouping of distinguish security stakeholders and well-meaning Nigerians for the safety and easy transportation of agricultural produce in and out of the Ado-Odo Otta Local Government who also shares boundary with Lagos State, the commercial nerve centre of the country.

The Joint Technical Task Team is composed of The Nigerian Police Force, The Nigerian Security Civil Defence, All Farmers’ Association, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Union of Road Transport Owners, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE), The Nigerian Legion, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Soul Safe Corp, Nigerian Army.

Speaking at the Inaugural Meeting, CSP Idehai Godwin, D.P.O Sango Otta who also is the chairman of the Joint Technical Task Team stated that the mandate of the synergy is to ease transportation of food and agricultural inputs to get to the desired destination and also ensure food meant for the people are not hoard or smuggled to other neighbouring countries.

“Recruited personnel shall be positioned at the borders area to monitor and ensure vehicles carrying agricultural produce are not hindered and are allowed access to get to their destinations on time.

“This will no doubt, bring great relief to the people and make life easy for everyone. I encourage all hands to be on deck to actualize this dream”, Godwin stated.

He added that, the federal government in doing this is only being proactive. It doesn’t mean there is shortage of food in the country as there are farmers everywhere.

The Chairman Transition committee, Ado-Odo/Otta Local Government, Adewale Wasiu Lawal in his speech at the inaugural meeting now plea for maximum support from the stakeholders to ensure that Ado-Odo Local Government have the best task force in this federation.
