Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said the decision by the Federal Executive Council meeting to hold via virtual platform has proven to be far more economical in running the affairs of government.

Lai who was apparently reacting to the challenges posed by Coronavirus in the country, said governance cannot afford to shut down indefinitely on account of the pandemic.

He said it would go down history as the first administration that has successfully used e-Conferencing to hold the FEC meeting.

His words, “It’s been quite a while and I am sure you all know why. But we must not allow COVID-19 to completely stop us or slow us down, we must find ways of coping with it.

” While the Taskforce, the various emergency operating centres are doing their best all overall the country to arrest and slow down the spread, government also thought it was important to fight COVID-19, at least to find a way to be running government. That is why we resulted to technology.

“After a long time, the first time in the history of this country that the Federal Executive Council held via teleconference, where only ministers that had memoranda to present were physically present at the villa.

“Other ministers joined from their offices via teleconferencing. If this is anything to go by, it has even proven to be very very efficient way of running government.

“Today, we had about seven memos in total presented, the bulk of which was from the minister of finance, budget and national planning and then the ministers of transportation, agriculture and the minister of power”.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari presided over the virtual meeting from the Council chambers on Wednesday, where a number of memoranda were presented for consideration.
