News Chinese company donates N1 million, other palliatives to Ebonyi

A Chinese Construction Company in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital, C.G.C CHEN, handling the NEWMAP Flood Intervention has donated covid-19 palliative materials to the state.

The gesture is to assist and support Governor David Nweze Umahi’s efforts to alleviate the present economic hardship in the country as a result of coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world.

Presenting the items which includes 300 cartons of indomie noodle , 60 bags of rice and N1 million cash to the Commissioner for Environment, Emma Uguru, the senior Business manager, Mr CHEN KANGLE, noted that the gesture was part of the company’s social responsibility to assist the state and its citizenry at this difficult time.

He therefore, promised their unalloyed support to state government’s programmes as he believed that with the efforts of government and health workers, coronavirus would be a thing of the past and things will normalized again.

“We wish to perform our corporate social responsibility to assist the government and the people at this very difficult time. Therefore today, we make our donation to the state government.

“We believe that with the efforts of government and health workers, the pandemic will eventually vanish and normal live will be returned”.

The Commissioner for Environment, Emma Uguru, while receiving the items on behalf of the state government , thanked the the company for their quick response to the Government’s call to help fight the pandemic from raising its ugly head in the state.

Uguru who appreciated Gov Umahi for fighting tooth and nail to ensure that Ebonyi is free of the pandemic also thanked God Almighty that the index case recorded so far in the State was at the border.

“His Excellency the Governor who we are representing as we all know has been a man to be well noted in his efforts in fighting the pandemic. He has been fighting from many angles living no stone untouched.

“Even though we are said to be having one index case, good enough that the case was at the border and that is to say that the person has not mixed with people with in the State environs.

“On behalf of his Excellency, the Governor, I want to thank the company and to still ask that under this pandemic, the government and the people of the state stands like Oliver Twist. We are still asking for more from you and others who are yet to respond to the call of the government” he added

The state project coordinator Nigeria Erosion and water chain management. Dr Phillip Uche Echiegu, said C.G.C is the contractor handling the flood control under the ongoing Nigeria Erosion and water chain management project assisted by the World bank adding company was in the ministry to present covid – 19 palliative to the state government as part of their contribution towards the control of the pandemic in the state.
