News Alex Song: How I wasted all my money on expensive cars

Former Cameroon and Arsenal midfielder Alexander Song revealed that he only earned £15000 in his first year at Arsenal, but failed to spend wisely.

Former Cameroon and Arsenal midfielder Alexander Song revealed that he only earned £15000 in his first year at Arsenal, but failed to spend wisely.

Song spent eight years with the Gunners before joining Spanish LA Liga side Barcelona for 15 million pounds years later.

Song was very famous and he played a big role in the Gunners’ midfield alongside Francesc Fabregas and Alexander Hleb.

The former Cameroonian international who was also regarded as one of the best holding midfielders in the premier league at the time said he struggled to save money in his account because he wanted to live like Thierry Henry who was the Club’s highest earner at the time.

“I spent eight years at Arsenal, but it wasn’t until my last four that I can say that I started earning a very good living because my salary increased considerably, wasted a lot of money, I was going to expensive dinners, trips and holidays.

During those eight years, I couldn’t even keep £100,000 in my bank account. I thought I was a millionaire but that was not the reality, I was making £15,000 per week. I came to training, saw Henry arrived in his car, I thought I need the same no matter cost because I was a footballer, go to dealer, signed some papers and ended up with the same car as Henry, but I understood that my money was going to run out and I asked for a Toyota instead.” Alex Song said in a live chat with his followers on Instagram video,’

Song added that he decided to join Barcelona because he was desperate to become a millionaire and doesn’t care about playing time.

“Barcelona were interested in signing me and their sporting director spoke to me, he told me that I wasn’t going to play much football there. I told him that I don’t care, I knew that now I was really going to be a billionaire.” He concluded.

Alex Song’s career has since gone backward since his departure from Arsenal, he was recently sacked by his Swiss club FC Sion for failing to accept pay cut in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
